Aus rund 230 Bewerbungen hat eine unabhängige Jury 21 Künstler:innen unterschiedlicher Disziplinen für den Jahrgang 2024/25 ausgewählt. Darunter sind auch wieder drei Künstler:innen-Tandems, die im Rahmen der türkisch-deutschen Koproduktionsstipendien, einem Kooperationsprojekt mit der Allianz Foundation, an die Kulturakademie Tarabya kommen. Die neuen Stipendiat:innen ziehen ab dem 1. Oktober 2024 für viermonatige Aufenthalte in die Künstler:innen-Residenz am Bosporus. Zu den ausgewählten Künstler:innen gehören unter anderem Erol Afşin, Newroz Duman, Martin Grütter, Olga Martynova, Ülkü Süngün, caner teker sowie das Künstler:innen-Tandem Larissa Araz & Aria Farajnezhad. Die neuen Stipendiat:innen für den Jahrgang 2024/25 stehen fest!

Die Kulturakademie Tarabya in Istanbul eröffnet neue Perspektiven, schafft grenzüberschreitende Begegnungen und nachhaltige Erfahrungen des kulturellen Austauschs zwischen der Türkei und Deutschland. Über 180 Künstler:innen haben bislang in der Residenz gearbeitet. Bewerben können sich Kulturschaffende mit Wohnsitz und Lebensmittelpunkt in Deutschland aus den Sparten Architektur, Bildende Kunst, Darstellende Kunst, Design, Literatur, Musik, Film, Publizistik und Kulturtheorie sowie deutsch-türkische Künstler:innen-Tandems (in Kooperation mit der Allianz Foundation). Neben den neu ausgewählten Künstler:innen wurden auch Verlängerungsstipendien an Alumni der Kulturakademie Tarabya vergeben, darunter die Filmemacherin Steffi Niederzoll, der Autor Deniz Utlu und die bildenden Künstler:innen Angela Melitopolous und Kerstin Schroedinger. Finanziert werden die Stipendien vom Auswärtigen Amt. Das Goethe-Institut trägt die kuratorische Verantwortung für das Residenzprogramm.

Jury und Beirat Für den Aufenthalt 2024/2025 wurden die neuen Stipendiat:innen von einer unabhängigen fünfköpfigen Jury ausgewählt. Zu den Mitgliedern der aktuellen Jury zählen der Islamwissenschaftler und Journalist Rainer Hermann (Vorsitz), der Vorstand der Allianz Foundation Esra Küçük (stellvertretende Vorsitzende), der Direktor des Museum Ludwig in Köln Yilmaz Dziewior, die Filmemacherin und Tarabya-Alumna Ayşe Polat sowie die Komponistin, Musikerin und Tarabya-Alumna Cymin Samawatie.

Die Jury wurde vom Beirat der Kulturakademie berufen. Dem Beirat gehören Vertreter:innen des Bundestags, der Beauftragten der Bundesregierung für Kultur und Medien, des Auswärtigen Amts und des Goethe-Instituts an. Der Akademiebeirat berät auch über die konzeptionellen Leitlinien für die Kulturakademie.

Zuvor haben 21 unabhängige Fachberater:innen aus Deutschland und der Türkei nach einem Punkteverfahren ihre Bewertungen abgegeben. Ihre nicht bindenden Rankings lagen der Jury bei der Auswahlsitzung zu Grunde. Kurzbiografien der Stipendiat:innen 2024/2025

Erol Afşin (geb. in Adana, Türkei) zog im Alter von 19 Jahren nach Deutschland, um Schauspiel zu studieren. Nach seinem Abschluss an der Folkwang Universität der Künste etablierte er sich in Theaterproduktionen und Filmen, darunter der Oscar-nominierte „Mustang“ und der Cannes-Wettbewerbsfilm „Girls of The Sun“. In der US-Serie „Homeland“ hatte er eine wiederkehrende Rolle und spielte von 2021 bis 2023 in der ZDF-Neo Serie „Wir“ eine der Hauptrollen. Parallel zu seiner Schauspielkarriere führte Afşin Regie und drehte Kurzfilme wie „The Path“ und einen Kurzdokumentarfilm über die Reise zweier Männer nach Palästina. Sein Langfilmregiedebüt „Es brennt“ feierte 2023 Premiere beim Filmfest München und erhielt Nominierungen in den Kategorien „Beste Regie, Bestes Drehbuch, Beste Produktion“. Afşin ist nun deutscher Staatsbürger und lebt in Berlin.

Ένα συγχρονο, νευρώδες και εύστοχο ελληνικό έργο του Γιώργου Αδαμαντιάδη με θέμα την Ελλάδα του σήμερα, ιδωμένης μέσα από τον βίο και την πολιτεία δύο αδελφών-ληστών που εγκαταλείπουν την πόλη και ανεβαίνουν στα βουνά και επιδίδονται σε ένα δικό τους παιχνίδι άσκησης εξουσίας και δικαιοσύνης. Η σκηνοθεσία του Στέλιου Πατσιά είναι εύστοχη και αναδεικνύει ευεργετικά τις παθογένειες, τις αντιπαλότητες, αλλά και τις αντιφάσεις που ακόμη ταλανίζουν τον τόπο.

Ποιες είναι οι ελάχιστες δυνατές προϋποθέσεις επανεκκίνησης της ζωής, μιας ζωής που ν’ αξίζει να τη ζήσει κανείς;

7 Οκτωβρίου / 19.00Τόπος: Μακεδονικό Μουσείο Σύγχρονης ΤέχνηςΛογοτεχνική Performance «Εσύ: τα στοιχεία» του Βασίλη ΑμανατίδηΘέμα αποτελεί η εξοικείωση με τον ερωτικό αποχωρισμό -αλλά και κάθε αποχωρισμό- και η καταβύθιση στην κραταιά αγάπη. Στην επιτελεστική ανάγνωση – λογοτεχνική performance (σε σκηνοθεσία Σοφία Καρακάντζα), παρακολουθούμε τη σχέση του Βασίλη Αμανατίδη με το υβριδικό, συγκινητικό γραπτό κείμενό του, το οποίο –μπροστά στο κοινό– αποκτά μία οπτική και εικαστική διάσταση. Το ίδιο το ποιητικό έργο τιμήθηκε πρόσφατα με το «Βραβείο Ποίησης 2017» του Ιδρύματος Ουράνη της Ακαδημίας Αθηνών.

Curtains go up for Fadjr theater festival in Iran

The 36th Fadjr Int’l Theater Festival opened at different venues across Tehran.

The 36th edition of the Fadjr International Theater Festival has been opened at different venues across Tehran.

The festival commenced on January 18, 2018, to host performances by dozens of troupes from Iran and other countries.

Some 200 troupes from Iran and other countries have been scheduled to perform during the event, while 89 performances were selected for the first day.

Iranian director Mahmoud-Reza Karimi has been set to stage Bertolt Brecht’s ‘The Caucasian Chalk Circle’ at Tehran’s City Theater Complex on the first night.

A troupe of young actors directed by Masoud Delkhah has been scheduled to perform an adaption from German writer Klaus Mann’s novel ‘Mephisto’ at Molavi Hall.

Peter Weiss’s ‘Marat/Sade’ directed by Iman Eskandari was selected for staging at Hafez Hall and ‘The History Boys’ by Ashkan Khilnejad at Iranshahr Theater Complex.

‘Entre-Cabanes’ by Ramona Poenaru and Gael Chaillat from France has been piched to go on stage at Tehran Book Garden. It is a multimedia installation, which invites the public to experience the practice of architecture.

Nineteen plays have been selected to go on stage at the international section, including Shusaku Takeuchi’s ‘The Package’ and Christopher Ruping’s ‘Hamlet’, both from Germany.

From France, ‘Shirtology’ by Jérome Bel, ‘Laundry of legends’ by Jassem Hindi, and ‘Too Loud a Solitude’ by Paris-based Iranian director Afshin Ghaffarian were picked to compete at the international section.

The international section also includes ‘Bigmouth’ by Valentijn Dhaenens from Belgium, ‘Invisible Cities’ by Pino Di Buduo from Italy, and ‘Guilty Landscapes’ by Dries Verhoeven from the Netherlands.

A number of plays from Brazil, Turkey, Azerbaijan, Switzerland, Iraq, Georgia and Greece form the other performances of the event.

Leman Yilmaz from Turkey, Lucia van Heteren from the Netherlands, Niklaus Helbling from Switzerland, and Fatemeh Motamed-Arya and Behzad Qaderi, both from Iran, are at the jury panel of the international section.

Organised by the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (IKSV), the 24th Istanbul Theatre Festival began on November 14, 2020 with the opening performance ‘Diagonale Ascendante’.

Performed by the Retouramont ensemble from France, with the choreography of Fabrice Guillot, dancers Nathalie Tedesco and Fanny Gombert scaled the facade of Yapi Kredi Bomontiada. The performance was free of charge and can be viewed online starting November 21, 2020 at 8 pm local time until November 28, 2020 at IKSV’s YouTube channel.

The 24th Istanbul Theatre Festival will continue through to December 1, 2020 on multiple local stages. It will also broadcast a limited number of performances online, which will be accessible via the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (IKSV) website. The opening ceremony was held online due to the pandemic.

IKSV Chairman of the Board Bulent Eczacibasi said “Since March, we have remembered how much we need culture and the arts in our most difficult times. Istanbul Theatre Festival Director Leman Yilmaz said in her speech that “the 24th Istanbul Theatre Festival was prepared with a varied and rich programme comprising physical viewings and online screenings. It is no small feat to bring such a programme to life these days. In that respect, I thank all our sponsors and our supporting institutions who stood by us and did not spare any help.”

The opening ceremony ended after the recipients of this year’s Honorary Awards commented on their awards: Belgian director Ivo van Hove; dancer, choreographer Geyvan McMillen and director Isil Kasapoglu.

The performances in Turkish will be spread out around the city, with coronavirus restrictions strictly enforced. The Recall: A Remembrance Project will be performed in Turkish and English between November 28-December 1, 2020, turning Istiklal Street into a ‘playground’. The press materials say the audience will “explore the hundred-year-old life story of the retired journalist Aret on a tour of this historic street in Beyoğlu, discovering its forgotten, secret and hidden places. People passing down the street will be part of the play in which the audience will participate through headphones and on foot. That which exists will be intertwined with fiction and the text with reality.”

There will also be a total of five online performances for international audiences, either in English or with English subtitles, priced modestly to allow access from all over the world.

They will be available for streaming on online.iksv.org/tiyatro for audiences without geographical restrictions: ‘Swan Lake’ by Club Guy & Roni, ‘Dopo La Battaglia (After the Battle)’ by Pippo Delbono Company, ‘Lear in the Kitchen’ by Kadro Pa, ‘Less Than No Time’ by Taldans and ‘A Case Per Day’ by BGST Tiyatro.

‘Dopo La Battaglia’, ‘Lear in the Kitchen’, ‘Less Than No Time’ and ‘A Case Per Day’ will be streamed with English subtitles.

‘Dopo La Battaglia’ will be broadcast between November 14-December 1, 2020, as will ‘Lear in the Kitchen’, ‘Less than No Time’ and ‘A Case Per Day.’

On November 18-19, 2020, one of the highlights of the online performances will be broadcast: Swan Lake. A collaboration between Club Guy & Roni, Slagwerk Den Haag and Tomoko Mukaiyama, this version of Swan Lake is a modern take on the classic, “a remix”.

Classic Russian play draws Istanbulites to theater

A theatrical adaptation of Eugene Onegin, a famous novel by Russian author Alexander Pushkin, has drawn the attention of art-lovers in Istanbul.

The play will be preformed on Thursday and Friday at the 23rd Istanbul Theatre Festival being held in collaboration with the Golden Mask Russian Performing Arts Festival.

The Russian classic is a tragedy with a carefree, rich gentleman as its protagonist. He rejects his lady love, only to realize the mistake he has made when its too late.

Festival Director Leman Yilmaz said 150 people had arrived from Russia for the performance.

“Many renowned actors came just for this festival. We are very happy to welcome them here in Istanbul,” she said.

She said their next step will be a Chekov Festival, to honor the Russian playwright.

Golden Mask Festival Director Maria Revyakina said: “It is not easy to show different performances for different theater audience in a different country. I would like to thank Leman and her team for their support.”

The Golden Mask will also perform other plays; Every Direction is North, The Circus and Iran Conference.

The festival, which will run through Dec. 1, will host 78 performances by 28 troupes — 12 from abroad and 16 from Turkey.

Istanbul Theater Festival to raise curtain in November

The 22nd edition of the Istanbul Theater Festival, organized by the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (İKSV), will take place between Nov. 17 and Dec. 4.

The festival will present a total of 52 performances by 24 theater and dance ensembles – 12 from abroad and 12 from Turkey – in 21 different venues. The festival program also features a number of events including panels, film screenings, master classes and workshops with the participation of international guests and experts.

The program of the festival was announced at a press conference on Sept. 5. Hosted by Ceylan Saner, the night also saw the presentation of the festival’s Honorary Awards.

The event featured talks by İKSV chair Bülent Eczacıbaşı, Aygaz General Manager Gökhan Tezel, Opet General Manager Cüneyt Ağca, Tüpraş General Manager İbrahim Yelmenoğlu from Koç Holding Energy Group Companies and Istanbul Theater Festival’s director Leman Yılmaz.

“The Istanbul Theater Festival is now a yearly event like our other three festivals,” Eczacıbaşı said. “This year, like last year, students will also be able to purchase Istanbul Theatre Festival tickets for only 10 Turkish Liras.”

Yılmaz underlined the special projects in the 22nd edition of the festival in her speech about the performances featured in the program.

“Various events will take place in 21 different venues in the course of 18 days. Twelve local and 12 international productions are featured in the program. We are further developing the collaborative relations that we have established with culture and arts institutions abroad. This year, we also started collaborating with the Flemish Culture Ministry. The ‘International Platform’ that we established in 2014 will continue hosting foreign professionals this year as well. It has become a program that festival directors, program consultants, and theatres closely follow. Local productions showcased at the festival are getting included in festivals or theatre venues abroad,” Yılmaz said.

During the press conference and awards ceremony, gratitude plaques were also presented to the contributing organizations and institutions.

The festival’s first Honorary Award was presented to the screenwriter, director, stage designer and academician Zeliha Berksoy and the Russian film and stage actor and artistic director of the Theater of Nations in Moscow Evgeny Mironov.

The 22nd Istanbul Theater Festival performances and side events will bring theater lovers together in 21 different venues on the European and Anatolian sides of Istanbul.

Festival plays will be staged at the Zorlu Performing Arts Center, Moda Sahnesi, Salon İKSV, DasDas, Oyun Atölyesi, Yunus Emre Culture Center, Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University’s Bomonti campus, UNIQ Hall, Üsküdar Tekel Sahnesi, and the venues that will host the festival for the first time this year: Duru Theater, Toy Istanbul, Adahan Istanbul, and Abud Efendi Konağı.

The festival’s free-of-charge side events will take place at Yapı Kredi Culture Center, Goethe Institut and Zorlu PSM.

The event will be hosting 12 theater and dance companies from around the world. It will be presenting “Hamlet | Collage,” staged by the Canadian director Robert Lepage and featuring the famed Russian actor Evgeny Mironov playing 11 characters from Hamlet, as well as the dance marathon that consists of four distinct choreographies by Nederlands Dans Theater I, one of the world’s leading companies in contemporary dance.
